Dear Rambler, Just a word or two of explanation about my current situation.
I stopped exploring and writing up new walks in September 2025 after reaching the age of 81, sixteen years after launching the project. I had an urgent hip replacement, but at the start of 2026 I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and I can walk only short distances.
My only role now is in editing the walking guides. The medication I'm receiving, plus hospital visits, has severely limited what I can achieve.
Added to this is the rising popularity of the website, with its 530 walks and hundreds of users, resulting in a very busy inbox. I have to ration my time and make rapid edits, about 10 mins each, including replying, re-generating and uploading.
Hence long and detailed accounts are hard to deal with.
Some time in the future, these walks will remain unedited in a frozen state. In the meantime I ask walkers to confine updates to clear and simple changes, avoiding alterations which are not absolutely essential for people to follow and understand each guide.
Ideally, concise updates such as the following are easy to handle:
Maidstone, Kent
Leg 1 Section 3: 'left over a stile' - stile is now a kissing-gate.
Leg 3 Section 2: 'right at a marker post' - marker post has gone but the turn is obvious.
Thank you for your understanding and happy walking!
